Watch Buyer / Planner

Long’s Watch Buyer / Planner is responsible for establishing and maintaining category strategies that collectively drive the health and success of Long’s luxury timepiece business.   Your contributions will help to maximize sales growth and profitability by identifying and onboarding new vendors, as well as maintaining the success of our current assortment.  Building key relationships both within and outside of Long’s, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret sales data, are key components to your success.   

Responsibilities:

  • Build and foster relationships with a portfolio of key vendors.
  • Build assortment to gain market share and drive revenue for the business.
  • Partner with internal partners to establish long-term and viable business growth opportunities; communicate business strategy and results to leaders and peers in a clear and concise format.
  • Negotiate with vendors in the interest of Long’s business goals and strategies.
  • Utilize a planning mindset to analyze data both in-the-moment and over time to identify opportunities and inform company strategy, including price point, distribution, etc.
  • Forecast and manage sales, margin, inventory receipt plans, and turn for both Retail stores and e-Comm.
  • Update weekly/monthly business summaries to report on status of business, including recommended responses to trend.
  • Manage special orders, as needed, and assist with resolving elevated customer issues.
  • Anticipate market trends and product needs through visiting Long’s stores on a monthly basis, as well as shopping the competition regularly.
  • Willingness to step up and handle more responsibilities as the team’s needs evolve over time.

Qualifications/Experience/Attributes:

  • 3+ years of retail merchandising experience in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Proven experience managing numerous and diverse vendor relationships
  • Proficient PC skills, including MS Office and advanced Excel skills
  • Aptitude to analyze discrete data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities, as well as sell-through, margin gain, price point, etc.
  • An entrepreneurial, self-starter who can think innovatively and take the ball and run with it with a positive attitude.
  • Great communicator who can motivate and influence both internally and externally across all levels.
  • Ability to multi-task is a must.

Estate Buyer 

Long’s is looking for motivated individuals to be a part of our team.  We strive to provide the absolute best customer experience, and look for driven professionals who have a true love of working with people and building relationships. 

We are seeking an experienced Estate Buyer who excels at understanding the potential market value of quality jewelry and timepieces.  Ideal candidates will have expert knowledge in design, precious metals, gemstones and timepieces, with a focus on relationship-based buying and selling.  Must be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with limited oversight. 

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage appointments and meet in-person with customers who are interested in selling their estate and period pieces.
  • Provide accurate market valuations and ensure the customer gains a good understanding of what is driving the valuation.
  • Negotiate a fair purchase price for both the customer and for Long’s.
  • Partner with Store Managers to set up appointments across multiple locations in the Boston area.
  • Proactive follow up with customers as needed.

 

Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Minimum of 3 years prior jewelry buying experience preferred.
  • Sound understanding of current market values for period pieces, with the ability to quickly assess values and authenticity.
  • Diamond and Colored Stones identification needed; GIA certified preferred; Additional certifications a plus.
  • Knowledge of precious metals and timepieces required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to represent Long’s in the utmost professional manner at all times.

Master Jeweler 

We are seeking an experienced Master Jeweler who excels at understanding the design and craftsmanship of fine jewelry.  Ideal candidates will have expert knowledge in bench design, precious metals and gemstones, with a focus on custom jewelry and repairs.  Must be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with limited oversight. 

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Set stones in prong and bezel, including fancy cut stones. 
  • Re-tipping prongs.
  • Create stone mounts.
  • Perform channel and platinum rebuilds.
  • Perform minor ring repair and other jewelry repairs, including chain and clasp repairs.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work with all metals, including 14k, 18k, platinum and sterling silver.
  • Master level skillset with torch.  Prefer some laser experience.
  • Ability to complete 15 – 20 repairs daily, in addition to the shared maintenance and general upkeep of the shop.
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to use sound judgment to arrive at the best outcome based on the information at hand.
  • Ability to interact with external and internal customers.

Concierge 

We are looking for a motivated, professional, customer service-oriented individual to join our Peabody Long’s location. This position will be the important first impression of Long’s to all customers who visit our store.  If you take pride in representing luxury goods and working for the most prominent name in fine timepieces and jewelry, this job could be for you!  Responsibilities include:

  • Welcome customers into Long’s with warmth and hospitality.
  • Qualify and assess the needs of each customer and escort the customer to the appropriate location within the store.
  • Control traffic flow within the store to ensure safety and health guidelines.
  • Engage customers in dialogue and ensure that they feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Represent the Long’s Brand at the highest of standards, including knowledge of Brand history and categories available for sale.
  • Perform errands for the store as needed, depending upon the needs of the business.
  • Assist with daily store opening and closing procedures.

Required skills and experience include:

  • Must have good communication skills and a keen attention to detail
  • Professional demeanor and appearance
  • Enjoy working with people and an interest in sales
  • Comfortable working with computers
  • Willingness to pitch in where needed and be a team player
  • An interest to learn about luxury timepieces and the jewelry industry is a plus; will train on industry knowledge

The Concierge position is Full-Time and qualifies for our comprehensive benefits package.  Our stores are currently open five days a week, Tuesday – Saturday, and this position will require flexibility to work overtime as needed, as well as an additional weekend day during peak season and for special events.

Luxury Jewelry Customer Service Professional

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Efficiently operate the store’s office according to all policies and procedures.
  • Providing outstanding customer service at all times.
  • Processing customer transactions.
  • Balance store closing and nightly paperwork.
  • Processing orders, sales and transfers of merchandise.
  • Handling incoming phone calls and responding to general inquiries.
  • Evaluate and document condition of customers merchandise for repair.
  • Inspect merchandise and completed repair for quality control standards.
  • Knowledge of ASC operating system a plus.
